“A Rose’s Self-Defection” explores internalized homophobia through plant anthropomorphism, depicting the struggle of self-rejection and transformation. Internalized homophobia partly arises from societal prejudice, causing individuals to deny their own identity. As society progresses, we hope for a more inclusive and open understanding of different perspectives, with factors causing such conflicts gradually decreasing. The term “self-defection” in the title expresses a state of escaping self-imposed constraints. Through graphic design, the work tells the story of a rose breaking free and achieving self-liberation. The project also uses an AR video to vividly showcase the journey of A Rose’s Self-Defection.
